How I Create Domain Names (Part 1)

This is the first part of a series about how I create domains which could have resale value even if undeveloped, or could be developed and sold and/or monetized.

I love using Excel to create spreadsheets and spreadsheet applications which I hope will save me time with tasks now and in the future. Domains demand a lot of my spreadsheet creation time nowadays; after all there’s financial stats, lists and all sorts of other information you can log and analyze.

I created my own ‘Domain Creation’ spreadsheet which I hope to gradually improve over time and one of the functions which I found to be useful in this case is the CONCATENATE function.

You don’t need to use it like other functions ie. =SUM(A1,B1) or in this case =CONCATENATE(A1,B1), instead, you can put =A1&B1 into a cell, using the ‘&’ Ampersand instead. This will take the word in cell A1 and join it to the second word in cell B1, like this:

Concatenation Image 1

You can see that cell C1 has the formula to join the two words together.

Why go to all that bother to join a few together? Well, it opens up many possible combinations. If you copy the word domain down from A1 to, say, A100, (this is easy, just click on A1 and then use the ‘fill-handle’ that appears, which I’ve circled on C1, and drag down as far as you wish). Then type in different words in column B, related or loosely related to the word ‘domain’ and use the fill-handle to copy the formula down and create some potentially new domains that you may not have thought of.

I generally check for availability in Domain Name Analyzer and while that’s checking, create some more. Any available domains that I like, I list in a spreadsheet, (of course).

’til next time
